Visitation hosts sixth annual Crawfish Festival

By Father Luong Uong |

Six years ago a Vietnamese couple—Isabel and Xinh Nguyen—at Visitation BVM Parish in Philadelphia suggested to their priest the idea of selling crawfish as a parish fundraiser. Every spring their sister, Thuy Nguyen of Houston, would drive to Philadelphia to visit her family, and she would bring some crawfish to sell after Mass on Sunday.

The idea was accepted, and the Crawfish Festival was launched. Since then, the festival has become bigger and more successful. More people in the Kensington area are coming to expect this festive day every year and are excited about it.

Thank God for good weather! On Sunday, April 19, during our sixth annual Crawfish Festival, we sold more than 2,500 pounds of crawfish. Our team was well organized this year. I am very happy that our Vietnamese community has taken the initiative and responsibility to contribute our best to Visitation BVM. I am so proud of them!

I dream that next year we will do even better and that you can come and enjoy this special day with us.
