Conference Communiqué: Transition to Ministry

Confreres! This is a new occasional section of the Baltimore Chronicle that will be called Conference Communiqué. My goal is to include some of the happenings within the Conference or issues we are discussing. Any insights concerning this section or suggestions for topics would be most welcomed.
Our topic for this first edition will be Transition to Ministry. This is a program that provides support for young Redemptorists during the first five years after initial formation.
Recently the new directors, Peter Schavitz, C.Ss.R., and Bob Wojtek, C.Ss.R., met with the Conference Coordinator at the Mission House in Liguori, MO. It was a time to review the program and plan for the next gathering, which will take place in May 2017 at the Redemptorist Renewal Center in Tucson, AZ.
More than a dozen young Redemptorists are part of this program, from the Denver and Baltimore Provinces, the Vice Province of Richmond, the Extra-Patriam Vice Province, and the English-Speaking Caribbean Region.
Each of the program’s weeklong session includes time to check in concerning their overall life as well as time to discuss various aspects of the ministry they are involved in. There are two weeklong sessions each year, and these move around to different sites within the Conference.
The program is also supported by many confreres who serve as Mentors and Spiritual Directors. Thanks to all who have already been approached and said “Yes!”

Since this initial meeting Paul Nguyen, C.Ss.R., was named by the Extra-Patriam to help with the follow-up support of their young confreres.

In the Redeemer,

Jack Kingsbury, C.Ss.R.
North American Conference Coordinator
