Sister Moira Quinn celebrates silver jubilee

The Redemptoristine Nuns rejoiced in splendid celebration of the 25th jubilee of vows for Sister Moira Quinn, O.Ss.R., on Saturday, June 13, 2015.

Supported by the generous hospitality of the Carmelite Nuns with whom they share a monastery in Beacon, N.Y., the community  welcomed young and old of Sister Moira’s family and friends. Taking part in the festive liturgy were Sister Moira’s mother and nieces. Among these were two youngsters from East Timor recently adopted by Irene and Tom Powell, Sister Moira’s sister and brother-in-law.

Before the entrance procession of the Mass Veronica Smaldone offered the song “Do You Remember the Call” as a meditative prelude, accompanying herself on the guitar. Sister Moira then shared with those gathered the story of her vocation: her early childhood desire, her time working as a hairdresser and enjoying her own small cabin in rural upstate New York, the writing of her novel about St. John the Baptist as a spiritual exercise, and a time of seeking guidance in discernment of the call that had never gone away.

The community receives many gifts born of Sister Moira’s generous heart, creative gifts, and her desire that people should just have a good time. Foremost though is the example and leadership she provides in the office of prioress always pointing to Jesus, Maria Celeste’s Wayfarer in the world, as the goal of our transformation into “Living Memory” of the Redeemer.

We offer a photo collage of our beautiful and loving celebration.
