More than $25,000 contributed for the Diocese of Erbil

By Father Paul Borowski |

Dear Brothers:

Greetings during this Easter season!

Thanks to those communities who made generous donations to the Province’s Lenten program to raise funds for Archbishop Bashar Warda, C.Ss.R., the Chaldean Archbishop of Erbil.

As a Province we were able to send Archbishop Warda $25,489.81. A special word of thanks goes to Jim Dowds and the military base he serves in California, where more than $11,000 was collected for this cause. Also, a word of thanks goes to Eric Hoog and the military base he serves in North Carolina, where more than $2,000 was given.

In Erbil the archdiocese is taking different measures to rehabilitate the refugees. They have three main goals to assist them. First they want to provide stability via employment and affordable housing, second to be sure that families have access to good education and medical care, and third—and most important—a vibrant living Church to support the social and spiritual needs of the affected families.

The resources of Erbil and its neighboring dioceses have been stretched because of the high influx of people over this short period. Erbil Diocese has grown by more than 30 percent with churches, schools, health-care facilities, housing, and basic infrastructures feeling the burden.

Your Lenten sacrifice will be used to help the Diocese of Erbil assist those who have been displaced. May the blessings of the Risen Lord shine on the people of Erbil and your community.

Yours in Christ the Redeemer,
Very Reverend Paul J. Borowski, C.Ss.R.
Provincial Superior
